Before the new cloth can go on
Modern cloth is stapled down. You push the tip under the staple and press the handle down; the staple comes out in one movement, without prising into the wood. That last part matters: you are working in the frame that has to take new staples afterwards. Works with the common staple sizes.
Together with the nail puller and the plier it makes up the tool set for a recovering job from start to finish.

This is the kit I work with myself: staple removers, cloth-stretching pliers, battens for cushion cloth. Doing it yourself? Then you buy the same here.
Only, the difference is not in the tools. You see that on the table: how tightly the cloth lies and how the ball runs over it. That is where the years go, and you can simply leave it to me.
