Snooker markings

The points and lines on a snooker table are ideally drawn when the cushions are not mounted on the table. To facilitate drawing, a string is stretched over the length of the table - from the baulk cushion to the top cushion - that divides the table exactly in two, all points are marked along this line. The markers often have a notch to guide the string. If this notch is not present, the center of the marker needs to be measured to place the string correctly.

Below you'll find all the dimensions you need to apply the lines. I've also included the dimensions within the border, so you can apply the lines to a fully assembled table, although I strongly advise against this.

I have also indicated the blue and pink dots in inches and centimeters below. You can use these sizes, but keep in mind that they will not be accurate if your table does not have the exact dimensions. Therefore, it is recommended to measure and calculate these two sizes yourself.

For applying the semicircle, there is a special rule available but it is not necessary.

12 Foot / full size snooker

  • baulk line: 78.74 cm (31 inches) from the stone measured or approximately 74 cm from the baulk cushion
  • Black spot: 37.47 cm (14 3/4 inches) from the stone or approximately 32.5 cm from the top band
  • Pink spot: 93.98 cm (37 inches) from the stone or approximately 89 cm from the top band. This corresponds to 1/4th of the length between the bands.
  • Blue spot: 182.88 cm (72 inches) from the stone or approximately 178 cm from the top and baulk cushion. This point is exactly in the center of the table! The given dimensions must therefore be adjusted if the stone does not measure exactly 144 inches.
  • Half circle: radius of 29.2 cm (11 1/2 inches)

10 Foot Snooker

  • baulk line: 59.69 cm (26 inch) from the stone measured or approximately 54.7 cm from the baulk cushion
  • Black spot: 32.39 cm (12 3/4 inch) from the stone or approximately 27.4 cm from the top band
  • Pink spot: 78.7 cm (31 inches) from the stone or about 73.7 cm from the top band. This corresponds to 1/4th of the length between the bands.
  • Blue spot: 152.4 cm (60 inches) from the stone or about 147.4 cm from the top and baulk cushion. This point is exactly in the center of the table! Therefore, the specified dimensions need to be adjusted if the stone does not measure exactly 120 inches.
  • Half circle: radius of 24.1 cm (9 1/2 inches)

9 Foot snooker

  • Baulk line: 59.69 cm (23 1/2 inches) from the stone measured or approximately 73.7 cm from the baulk cushion
  • Black spot: 29.85 cm (11 3/4 inches) from the stone or approximately 24.8 cm from the top band
  • Pink spot: 71.12 cm (28 inch) from the stone or about 66.1 cm from the top band. This corresponds to 1/4th of the length between the bands.
  • Blue spot: 137.16 cm (54 inches) from the cushion or approximately 132.2 cm from the top and baulk lines. This point is exactly in the center of the table! Therefore, the given measurements need to be adjusted if the cushion does not measure exactly 108 inches.
  • Semicircle: radius of 21.6 cm (8 1/2 inches)

8 Foot snooker

  • Baulk line: 53.34 cm (21 inches) from the stone measured or approximately 48.3 cm from the baulk cushion.
  • Black spot: 27.3 cm (10 3/4 inches) from the stone or approximately 22.3 cm from the top band
  • Pink spot: 63.5 cm (25 inch) from the stone or about 58.5 cm from the top band. This corresponds to 1/4th of the length between the bands.
  • Blue spot: 121.92 cm (48 inches) from the stone or approximately 116.9 cm from the top and baulk cushions. This point is exactly in the center of the table! The specified dimensions must therefore be adjusted if the stone does not measure exactly 144 inches.
  • Half circle: radius of 19 cm (7 1/2 inches)

FAQ

The points and lines on a snooker table are ideally marked when the cushions are not mounted on the table. To facilitate marking, a string is stretched over the length of the table, dividing it precisely in half, from the baulk line to the top cushion. All points are marked on this line.

The measurements for marking the points and lines on a snooker table are determined based on the table size. The blog provides detailed measurements for 12-foot/full-size, 10-foot, 9-foot, and 8-foot snooker tables.

There is a special tool available for marking the semi-circle, but it is noted that this tool is not necessary for the marking process.
